Coronary Artery Disease

James Miller is a 55 year old male with history of coronary artery disease, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and hypertension. He came to the hospital because he was experiencing chest pain while gardening. He is a Caucasian American Male. He is currently in the hospital recovering from a heart procedure that removed the plaque in his heart.

Inpatient Hospital Room

1. Conduct a focused cardiovascular assessment, including vital signs, telemetry, perfusion status, and chest pain evaluation.
2. Monitor for post-procedure complications, such as bleeding at the catheter site, dysrhythmias, or recurrent chest pain.
3. Administer prescribed medications such as antiplatelets, beta-blockers, or statins and monitor for side effects.
4. Interpret ECG rhythm strips and monitor for signs of myocardial ischemia or infarction.
5. Educate the patient on post-PCI care, medication adherence, activity restrictions, and lifestyle modifications.

1. Perform a thorough cardiovascular assessment and identify abnormal findings.
2. Recognize early signs of complications post-PCI, such as hematoma, bleeding, or re-occlusion.
3. Administer and document cardiovascular medications safely and accurately.
4. Provide individualized patient teaching to promote secondary prevention of CAD.
5. Demonstrate clinical reasoning and prioritize nursing interventions based on the patient's status.
