Pneumonia

Rahul Patel is a 60 year old male with history of COPD & Hypertension and came to the hospital because he was short of breath. He is an Indian American Male who migrated to the United States when he was a child. Loves to be with family and go to the cigar lounge with his friends on his free time. He is currently ill in the hospital due to pneumonia.

Inpatient Hospital Room

1. By the end of the simulation, the student will accurately assess a patient with pneumonia, identifying at least three key clinical signs
2. Within the simulation session, the student will apply appropriate oxygen therapy based on the patient’s condition (e.g., nasal cannula or non-rebreather mask) and demonstrate proper repositioning techniques to improve oxygenation, ensuring O₂ saturation remains above 88%.
3. During the simulation, the student will correctly administer prescribed medications using the 5 Rights of Medication Administration and monitor for adverse effects or contraindications.
4. Before the end of the scenario, the student will provide two key education points to the patient regarding pneumonia management

1. Perform comprehensive and focused assessments using subjective and objective data.
2. Apply evidence-based guidelines in decision-making to provide safe and effective patient care.
3. Utilize the 5 Rights of Medication Administration to ensure patient safety.
4. Provide patient education tailored to the individual’s literacy level, culture, and learning needs.
5. Demonstrate proper hand hygiene, PPE use, and aseptic technique.
6. Accurately document nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic health record (EHR).
7. Demonstrate adherence to nursing ethics, legal standards, and scope of practice.
